Barry (pictured 2nd left) 1st returned to Vietnam when he made a trip to Hanoi with Joan Baez (2nd right) as part of a peace delegation in December of ‘72. In October Henry Kissinger made a speech stating “Peace is at hand” and “what remains to be done can be settled in one more negotiating session with the North Vietnamese negotiators.  Lasting, I would think, no more than three or four days.” Barry learned the hard way that this speech actually turned out to be a bogus presidential election campaign promise by the Nixon Administration to get reelected. He and the rest of the peace delegation witnessed the power of a US bombing raid on Hanoi that has been remembered as “The Christmas Bombings of Hanoi.”
